Navigate to the remote western end of Nahuel Huapi lake to reach Puerto Blest, a lush rainforest-like enclave fed by Pacific weather systems. The climate here shifts noticeably from the drier eastern shore near Bariloche — Pacific moisture crossing the Andes creates a genuine temperate rainforest at Puerto Blest, with moss-covered trees and a density of vegetation that feels closer to Chile's Lake District than the steppe landscapes more commonly associated with Patagonia. The hike to the spectacular Los Cántaros waterfall winds through this same rainforest, ending at a waterfall framed by exactly the kind of dense greenery the crossing promised. A good full-day pick for travellers who want to see the wetter, greener side of the Nahuel Huapi region, in genuine contrast to the drier lake-district scenery closer to town.

Ascent to Cerro Campanario by Chairlift
A short but spectacular chairlift ride to the summit of Cerro Campanario, rewarded with what many consider one of the most beautiful views in the world: lakes, islands, forests, and the Andes spread in every direction. Ticket only, with no transfers included, which makes this an easy addition to combine with the Circuito Chico loop or any other Bariloche day plan, since the base is directly on the lake-district driving route. A short but genuinely worthwhile detour, and one of the few world-class views in the region that requires almost no physical effort to reach.

The definitive Bariloche half-day excursion: a scenic loop through the lake district passing Llao Llao Peninsula, Lago Perito Moreno, Punto Panorámico, and the legendary Llao Llao Hotel. The route itself is often cited as one of the most beautiful drives in South America, winding along the shores of Nahuel Huapi through native forest with the Andes as a constant backdrop. The Llao Llao Hotel, an architectural landmark since the 1930s, is worth the stop even if you're not staying there — its setting on the peninsula is one of the defining images of the Argentine lake district. Can be combined with the Cerro Campanario chairlift on the same day for the region's best single-day introduction. We recommend this as the first excursion for any first-time Bariloche visitor — it's the drive that explains why this region is considered one of Argentina's most beautiful, and everything else you do afterward builds on the geography it introduces.
