Descend from the Andean highlands into the spectacular Yungas cloud forest of Calilegua National Park — one of Argentina's most biodiverse ecosystems, home to pumas, tapirs, toucans, and howler monkeys. The Yungas is a narrow, humid forest belt running along the eastern slopes of the Andes, and the contrast with the arid Quebrada landscapes most visitors have just come from is genuinely striking — dense, green, and alive with a level of birdsong and wildlife activity that the high-altitude puna simply doesn't have. Sightings of the park's larger mammals aren't guaranteed, but the density of birdlife alone makes this worthwhile even on a quieter day.
